He term spiritual gifs has stirred up controversy in the Christian community for many years. At the time I was doing research for this handbook there were over two hundred books on the subject of gifts. In all this accumulation of material there was very little information about the gifts themselves. Most of the books either promoted the charismatic movement or preached against it. This handbook avoids the gridlock of charge and countercharge. What are spiritual gifts? The Greek term uniformly translated "spiritual gifts" is charismata, from which we get the English terms "charisma" and "charismatic." The Greek language hiis at least three wo&meaning "giftlgivincand each has a , different connotation. Two of these terms, doma and dosis, emphasize the act of giving. Charismata emphasizes the nature of the gift.' Derived from the common Greek word charis "grace" ; , charismata literally means "grace-gifts." Such gifts are by nature totally undeserved, provided by grace. The use of the term charismata is not restricted in the New Testament to passages on spiritual gifts. The term is used in Romans 6: 23 to describe eternal life as the gracious gift of God. Paul used the term again in 2 Corinthians 1: 11to describe God's providential care for him. In both cases the emphasis is the same: the gracious nature of the particular gift in view. In most instances, however, charismata refers to spiritual gifts, and the term is usually followed by a list of particular gifts. Most authors describe spiritual gifts in similar terms. John- Walvoord wrote, "Spiritual gifts are divinely given capacities to- perform useful functions for God, especially in the area of service."2 Peter Wagner wrote, "Spiritual gifts are s~eci-al att&utesgiven by the Holy Spirit to every member of the Body of Christ.

Magnetic nanoparticles have special characteristic of exhibiting single-domain magnetism and can be used in magnetic tapes, ferrofluid, magnetic refrigerants, etc. In this study, we synthesized iron nanoparticles by CVC process using iron pentcarbonyl as a precursor under Ar or He atmosphere. The spherical nanoparticles of the mean diameter of 6-25nm comprise of the metal core and oxide shell. Average particle size increases and size distribution becomes wider and more asymmetric with increasing the decomposition temperature of precursor. Particles produced by CVC have larger size if argon as carrier gas was used. The measured values of lattice constant for as-prepared nanoparticles are larger than that of pure iron and increase with decreasing particle size. Such dependence of lattice constant on average particle size can be explained by the epitaxial growth of oxide shells with a lattice misfit of about 3%, which leads to compressive stresses induced in oxide shell and tensile stresses in metallic core, and causes increasing lattice constant in oxide-coated nanoparticles. To achieve a slow growth of oxide shells, the low temperature heat treatment was carried out in a flow atmosphere of argon contained about 0.0001 vol.% of oxygen. During low temperature heat treatment of iron nanoparticles the drastic decreasing of lattice constant of iron and the increasing saturation magnetization of nanoparticles are observed. The main reasons for those phenomena are the formation of defect structure in the oxide-metal phase interface by oxide film growth, and relaxation of internal stresses. So, the low-temperature heat treatment can be the way to improve magnetic properties of oxide-coated iron nanoparticles.

Of known proto-oncogenes. Antibodies to RB protein, c-jun, WAF-1, p53, and c-myc were purchased from Novocastro Laboratories Newcastle, UK ; . RB protein, c-jun, and WAF-1 were demonstrated using a peroxidase-labeled streptavidin technique, and c-myc was demonstrated using an indirect peroxidase method. Sections underwent microwave pretreatment for RB protein, WAF-1, and c-myc and trypsinization for c-jun. Controls were omission of primary antibody as negative and inclusion of known positives. The results are shown in Fig. 3. Widespread nuclear staining was demonstrated for p53 tumor suppressor gene 50 75% ; , WAF-1 40 50% ; , Rb protein 50 75% ; , and c-myc 40 60% ; in both tissues. There was no positive staining for c-erb-2 in any tissue. The original tumor stained negative for c-jun, but the secondaries were positive. Few cells in the metastatic tumor showed positivity with MIB-1 antibody, which demonstrates ki-67, a nuclear protein expressed during the cell cycle. The lymphoid tissue showed the expected pattern of staining. Further studies on genomic DNA derived from both primary and secondary tumors demonstrated that codons 201 and 227 of Gs and codon 179 and 205 of Gi2 were all wild type. Similarly there was no loss of heterozygosity at D15243 1p36 ; , D95741 9p, D105220 10q11.2 ; , H-ras-1 11p15.5 ; , Int 2 11q13 ; , and D175796 17p13 ; data not shown ; . Loss of heterozygosity within the Rb region has been demonstrated previously 15 and isdn.
The mammary gland is highly dependent on hormone signals for its development, but the potential impact of environmental EACs on its growth and function has not been a focus of research. Data from the present study demonstrated that development of mammary glands was susceptible to the endocrine actions of environmental EACs at 800 ppm and that male mammary glands may be more sensitive than those of the female to such agents.

By selection of a suitable hydrophilic or hydrophobic aerogel, the pharmaceutical loaded onto the aerogel can be released in an accelerated or delayed form. The type of loading also plays an important role. As discussed in section 2.2.4.2, liquids wet the hydrophilic aerogel structure and partly destroy it. If adsorption from the liquid solution as suggested by Schwertfeger et al. [Schwertfeger 2001] ; is to be used as the mechanism of loading, the drug which would then be released would, to some extent, have lost the characteristic properties of the aerogel. As a result, this loading mechanism does not seem to be optimal, especially in the case of hydrophilic silica aerogels. During the present work, it was of interest to find a procedure that allowed for loading of active substances onto hydrophilic aerogels without changing the aerogel structure. It was also essential to investigate the release of the corresponding pharmaceuticals from the aerogels so as to prove whether the drug-aerogel formulation is suitable as a drug delivery system. Special attention was paid to those substances, whose immediate release is desired. In this case, hydrophilic aerogels seemed to be well-suited as carriers, due to their immediate collapse in water.
