In December 2003, the prestigious Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies at Tel Aviv University, published a paper by retired Israeli General Shlomo Brom, in which the former deputy director of operations for the Israeli Defense Force accused the Sharon government of abetting the Bush Administration and the Blair government in fabricating intelligence about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, to justify the invasion. The Brom expose placed a fresh spotlight on the fact that, following 9 11, a parallel unit to Cheney's OSP had been created by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, to funnel unvetted and wildly exaggerated "intelligence" to the U.S. to abet the Washington neo-con war party. While both Israeli and American officials deny the existence of the U.S.-Israel intelligence backchannel, a few key pieces of evidence have surfaced, lending credibility to the charges. On June 29, 2002, the Washington Times reported that two top Israeli officials, Interior Minister Uzi Landau and Brig. Gen. David Tzur, had come to Washington, to confer with Under Secretary of Defense Feith, about establishing a permanent joint counter-terror unit. The scheme, the Washington Times boasted, had the enthusiastic backing of Rep. Tom DeLay R-Texas ; . Lt. Col. Kwiatkowski, who was cited above, reported that in. There is a need to design an HIV AIDS curriculum which should involve the following steps. Defining the type of programme including the age at which it is to introduced. Ore than a year before the next major election, most significant candidates are well into their campaigns. And no matter that they may not be able to agree on any other issue, candidates who want a real shot at an elected office in 2000 have all proven that reaching out to women voters is a priority. History strongly supports that notion. Political pundits from all over the spectrum generally agreed that women tipped the balance towards Bill Clinton in 1992. The 1996 election brought what CNN called "the greatest gender gap in the 20 years since exit polls began, " with men's votes were split evenly between Clinton and Dole; but 54% of women supported Clinton and only 34% voted for Dole. The gender gap can be defined as the difference in voting patterns between women and men. Political scientist and Feminist Majority Foundation President Eleanor Smeal first identified and pointed out the significance of the gender gap in voting in 1980. ; The more recent 1998 congressional elections also showed a significant gender gap. The majority 51% ; of women voters supported Democratic House candidates, but only 48% of men voted Democratic. Major senate races showed an even more prominent gap. In the muchwatched New York Senate contest, then Rep. Charles Schumer defeated incumbent Republican Senator Alfonse D'Amato by a 10-point gender gap, with 59% of women voting for Schumer. Senator Barbara Boxer, DCalif., was re-elected with a 9-point gender gap over Republican challenger Matt Fong. One of the largest gaps seen in the '98 elections came from Democratic challenger John Edwards' upset victory over Republican Sen. Lauch Faircloth in North Carolina. Edwards prevailed with a 16-point gender gap: 59% of women supported Edwards and only 43% of men voted for him. Women made sure their voices were heard in the last election cycle, and so 14.

Self. It achieves this imprint by discrediting real science and claiming creationist science as true science. All attempts to argue the creationists out of their mythical belief, to persuade them with logic, evidence, scientific inquiry and fact, will fail. They have created a "fundamentalist science." They know they cannot return to the pre-Darwinian innocence that let them believe the Bible alone was enough. They need, in the midst of their flight from reality, to reassure their followers that science, science not contaminated by secular humanists and nonbelievers, is on their side. In this they are a distinctly modern movement. They seek the imprint of science and scholarship to legitimize myth. This is a characteristic they share with all modern totalitarian movements, which co-opt the disciplines of law, science, medicine and scholarship to give a modern veneer to their primitive and superstitious belief systems, systems that allow the rulers to dictate reality and truth. The "paraprofessional" organizations formed by the Christian right, organizations of teachers, journalists, doctors, lawyers and scientists, mimic the activities of real professional. There are often economic pressures favouring the use of generic products. In some cases this can result in the purchase on contract of generic products by procurement agencies without prior licensing by the drug regulatory authority. However, all pharmaceutical products, including generic products, should be used in a country only after approval by the appropriate drug regulatory authority. Equally, pharmaceutical products intended exclusively for export should be subjected by the regulatory authority of the exporting country to the same controls and marketing authorization requirements with regard to quality, safety and efficacy as pharmaceutical products intended for the domestic market in the exporting country. Nominally equivalent interchangeable generic ; pharmaceutical products should contain the same amount of the same therapeutically active ingredients in the same dosage form and should meet required pharmacopoeial standards. However, they are usually not identical and in some instances their clinical interchangeability may be in question. Although differences in colour, shape and flavour are obvious and sometimes disconcerting to the patient, they are often inconsequential to the performance of the pharmaceutical product. However differences in sensitizing potential due to the use of different excipients and differences in stability and bioavailability could have obvious clinical implications. Regulatory authorities consequently need to consider not only the quality, efficacy and safety of such pharmaceutical products, but also their interchangeability. This concept of interchangeability applies not only to the dosage form but also to the instructions for use and even to the packaging specifications, when these are critical to stability and shelf-life. Regulatory authorities should require that documentation of a generic pharmaceutical product addresses three sets of criteria. These relate to: manufacturing GMP ; and quality control; product characteristics and labelling; and therapeutic equivalence see Part Two.

Miller et al. tration in a 10% sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel. A nitrocellulose immunoblot was prepared, blocked with 5% nonfat dry milk in PBS-T, incubated overnight with an anti-HIV-1 RT monoclonal antibody Intracell, Cambridge, MA; 1: 400 in PBS-T 1% BSA ; , and then incubated with Cy5-conjugated donkey antimouse IgG Jackson ImmunoResearch, West Grove, PA; 1: 300 in PBS-T 1% BSA ; . After washing, the blot was scanned at 600 V using red fluorescence in a Storm 860 PhosphorImager Molecular Dynamics, Sunnyvale, CA ; . The density of the heterodimeric RT bands was within the linear range of the instrument and a plot of fluorescence intensity versus nanograms of the RT standard yielded a straight line. Values of the unknown wild-type and mutant RT concentrations were determined from the linear regression analysis by interpolation. This experiment was performed twice and the average values used for the specific activity studies. Specific activity determination. The polymerase activity of 13 ng each recombinant RT preparation was evaluated in duplicate using a synthetic poly rA ; p dT ; 1218 template primer Pharmacia Biotech ; . Each 50- l reaction contained 15 g ml poly rA ; p dT ; 1218, 10 nM DTT, 50 mM Tris HCl, pH 6.8, 60 mM KCl, 1 mM EDTA, and 10 mM MgCl2. The reactions were begun by adding [ -32P]dTTP 500 Ci mmol, Amersham ; to a final concentration of 180 nM. Aliquots of 15 l were removed at 5, 10, and 20 min and applied directly onto Whatman 3-mm filter paper disks. The disks were washed three times for 10 min. each time in 5% trichloroacetic acid 1% sodium pyrophosphate, twice in 95% ethanol, then dried and counted in liquid scintillation fluid Ready Safe; Beckman, Palo Alto, CA ; . The incorporated [ -32P]dTTP was plotted as cpm versus time and the initial velocities determined from the slopes of the linear regression analyses. All values are presented as a percentage of the initial velocity of the wild-type recombinant RT with the percentage standard deviation of the duplicate samples also indicated. Processivity assays. Heteropolymeric HIV RNA template was prepared from a XhoI linearized pHIV-PBS plasmid using the Ribo Max kit Promega, Madison, WI ; according to the manufacturer's instructions. pHIV-PBS contains the 970-bp BglII-SphI fragment of the HXB2D molecular clone of HIV-1, corresponding to nucleotides 472-1442, and includes the R, U5 and 5 gag portions of the genome. This plasmid is similar to that used by Arts et al. 1994 ; . A second RNA template contained the truncated A T rich 5 -untranslated RNA4 region of the alfalfa mosaic virus together with the 5 -end of the coding sequence from HCMV DNA polymerase. The 600-base RNA template was prepared by transcription of SpeI linearized pUL544 plasmid Cihlar et al., 1997 ; . Double-stranded template primer was prepared in batch by incubating the RNA templates 200 nM ; with a DNA oligonucleotide primer 400 nM ; for 10 min at 85, then 10 min at 55 for annealing. The sequence for the HIV-1 oligonucleotide was 5 -GTC CCT GTT CGG GCG CCA-3 and corresponded to the natural tRNA primer binding site. The HCMV pol oligonucleotide sequence was 5 -CCG CGA CCG CAC CGC CGG TCA-3 . The homopolymeric poly rA ; oligo dT ; 18 template was prepared by annealing 25 nM poly rA ; 6000-bp average length; Boehringer Mannheim, Indianapolis, IN ; with 400 nM oligo dT ; 18, resulting in a dT primer for approximately every 375 bases of rA template. The processivity assays were carried out essentially as described by Arion et al. 1996 ; . Briefly, 2 ng of the wild-type or mutant RT was preincubated at 37 for 15 min with 5 pmol of heteropolymeric or 2 pmol of homopolymeric template primer calculated in moles of primer ; in a 10 DTT, 50 mM Tris HCl, pH 6.8, 60 mM KCl, 1 mM EDTA, and 10 mM MgCl2 reaction buffer. The 50- l reactions were begun by adding the dNTPs with or without a quenching template primer at a final concentration of 50 M dATP, dCTP, and dGTP; 180 nM [ -32P]dTTP 500 Ci mmol ; and 33 g ml poly rC ; p dG ; 1218 Pharmacia Biotech ; . This concentration of the quenching poly rC ; p dG ; 1218 is in 18-fold molar excess to the heteropolymeric template primer. For the poly rA ; oligo dT ; 18 processivity reactions, only 16.7 nM [ -32P]dTTP 500 Ci mmol ; and 33 g ml poly rC ; p dG ; 1218 was added. After 1 hr at 37, the total incorporation was assessed in a and adefovir.

Atlas D'Electrocardiographie et de Vectocardiographie. Etude du ventriculogramnnie dans les conditions normales et pathologiques. Pierre W. Duchosal and Jean R. Grosgurin. Basel, S. Karger, 1959, illustrated. Frs. s23.-; .59. The "Atlas of Electrocardiography and Vectorcardiography" prepared by Duchosal and Grosgurin is a logical conclusion of the monograph, "La Vectocardiographie, " published by the senior author and Sulzer 10 years ago. However, there are certain differences in the presentation of the two books. In the Atlas the polarity of the vectorcardiographic loops has been reversed so as to harmonize with the universally adopted system of electric recording of the heart's activity, and the projection of the spatial vectoreardiographic loops on the horizontal plane has been added. Each case included in the Atlas is portrayed by the reproduction of at least 12 standard, unipolar limb, and six or more unipolar precordial ; scalar leads and by three projections frontal, sagittal, horizontal ; of the spatial veetoreardiographic loop. These projections are accompanied by a view of a human head corresponding with the projection taken, a nice detail which facilitates the study of the loops. It is of interest that the authors selected the more logical left anterior position of the subject for the sagittal projection in contrast to the right anterior position usually employed in this country. The graphs are accompanied by a succinct history, the findings obtained by a physical examinationi, a clinical and agenerase.

Key Words: Psoriasis, Immunomodulators, Infliximab, Etanercept, Efalizumab, Alefacept, Adalimumab Psoriasis is a very common skin disease affecting up to 2.5% of people worldwide including over one million adults in Canada, 1 and more then 250, 000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Thirty-five percent of this population has been estimated to have moderate-to-severe disease, affecting between 2%-10% of total body surface area.2 According to the Canadian Consensus Statement, moderate-to-severe psoriasis significantly diminishes quality of life regardless of the amount of body surface area involved. A survey conducted by the National Psoriasis Foundation in the U.S. found that the stigma around psoriasis caused many sufferers to avoid social interactions or activities, especially if their lesions may attract undesirable attention or negative comments.3 Of the patients surveyed, 10% admitted to contemplating suicide as a result of their condition. The psychosocial impact of psoriasis is increasingly being recognized by treating physicians and further reinforced by patients' experiences. The result is a continuing demand for quick and effective treatment options, no matter how short term the benefits and what the financial implications are on the health care system and aggrenox. TNF inhibitors versus placebo All the three agents, either alone where so licensed ; or in combination with ongoing DMARDs, were effective in reducing the symptoms and signs of RA in patients with established disease. At the licensed dose the numbers needed to treat 95% CI ; required to produce an American Colleague for Rheumatology ACR ; response compared with placebo were: ACR20: adalimumab 3.6 3.1 to 4.2 ; , etanercept 2.1 1.9 to 2.4 ; , infliximab 3.2 2.7 to 4.0 ACR50: adalimumab 4.2 3.7 to 5.0 ; , etanercept 3.1 2.7 to 3.6 ; , infliximab 5.0 3.8 to 6.7 ACR70: adalimumab 7.7 5.9 to 11.1 ; , etanercept 7.7 6.3, to 10.0 ; , infliximab 11.1 7.7 to 20.0 ; . Combination TNF inhibitor plus methotrexate ; versus methotrexate In patients who were nave to methotrexate, or who had not previously failed methotrexate treatment, a TNF inhibitor combined with methotrexate was significantly more effective than methotrexate alone. Infliximab combined with methotrexate had an increased risk of serious infections relative risk 2.74, 95% CI 1.12 to 6.70; number needed to harm 25, 95% CI 16.7 to 100. Flour milling companies and home bakers ; use a variety of additives and treatments in their flours to improve or suppress a particular quality in their product. If you read the package labels carefully you can discern quite a lot about what has and has not been done. Here are a few of the more common: Enrichment: U.S. law and some other nations ; requires that refined flours which have had their bran and germ portions removed to be "enriched" by adding back a portion of the niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, folic acid, and iron that were lost in the refining process. Some milling companies go even further by adding vitamins A & D as well. There are various opinions about the value of this enrichment, but it's there. It has no affect on the taste, color, texture, caloric value, or baking qualities of the flour. Outside of the U.S. refined white flours.

Serum of the patients have been reported to be directed against cytochrome P450 1A2 CYP1A2 ; Bourdi et al., 1990 ; . It is thus suggested that a reactive metabolite of dihydralazine covalently binds to the P450 protein and triggers an immunological response as a neoantigen. In practice, it was demonstrated that dihydralazine was activated into a chemically reactive metabolite that covalently binds to liver microsomal protein by CYP1A2 Bourdi et al., 1994 ; . However, it remains unknown whether the appearance of anti-LM resulted from covalent binding only to CYP1A2 because its selectivity as the target protein of dihydralazine-reactive metabolite has not been evaluated. In the present study, we investigated the selectivity of inactivation of P450 enzymes during the metabolism of dihydralazine to evaluate the P450 protein s ; as the specific target protein of the reactive metabolite and aleve. The market in Japan is dramatically changing, with the revision of National Health Insurance drug prices, aggressive expansion of foreign-capitalized companies, and mergers between Japanese companies creating an increasingly competitive environment. Despite these conditions, Takeda was able to further strengthen its market-leading position by increasing its market share for in-house drugs in the Japanese ethical market in fiscal 2003 from 5.0 percent to 5.4 percent, with Blopress becoming the first Takeda product to achieve sales of 100 billion and adalimumab.
